Visualization System

What is the visualization system?

The visualization system is a system that supports the accomplishment of objectives, such as promotion of energy-saving activities, by sorting out and visualizing data and information in an easily comprehensive manner. The essence of development of a visualization system is that the content has to be created with a clear-cut understanding as to whom you want to show the data, what you want to communicate, what kind of activities you want to push forward by showing the data, and other detailed goals.
In many cases, Alphanet provides a visualization system in combination with our SCADA system, which monitors the operation and control of the building facilities, the building's energy consumption status, and other building management parameters. We then create project-specific display contents in a flexible manner by extracting key infromation (numerical indicators and graphs) from the vast amounts of data acquired by the SCADA system and presenting it in suitable designs, and by proposing, explaining and discussing our ideas with the customer before finalizing the contents.

Purpose

The purpose of and need for visualization system introduction is typically as follows:

  1. Promote company efforts aimed at tackling energy conservation issues (as part of branding); targeted at building visitors.
  2. Pursue energy-saving activities; targeted at building users (residents) and building management engineers.
  3. Understand the operation and control statuses of major systems; targeted at building management engineers and commissioning technical engineers.

System overview

The information gathered by the SCADA system is also used by the visualization system, which produces graphs and display screens based on the data. The screens are displayed in turns automatically, or may be switched arbitrarily using the touch panel.

Representation policies

The presentation method depends on the purpose of use as follows.

  • PR for energy-saving efforts
    ⇒The message is represented in an explicit way using characters, animations, photographs, etc.
  • Promotion of energy-saving activities
    ⇒The total energy consumption, consumption by application/area, hourly/monthly trends of consumption are represented in graphs and numbers. The data interval ranges from the instantaneous value to the daily, monthly or yearly value. The latest status is displayed creatively in comparison with other data acquisitions (days, months, or years), providing information necessary for concrete energy-saving actions.
  • Checks on the status of control, etc.
    ⇒The system chooses and displays the statuses of operation and control of facilities in order to identify any inappropriate settings that have significant impacts on how much energy is consumed. It shows whether the indoor environment is in line with reference values, whether the control set points are relevant, and so forth. If the actual conditions exceed the predetermined thresholds, the system presents and emphasizes warnings and recommends any corrective actions that were registered in advance, prompting the operator of the facility to take concrete action.
